On a recent Community post in Buzzfeed entitled 5 Things To Try On Google Pixel 2, we tested all sorts of new technology, including Google Lens and Google Assistant. It seemed clear that users who search Google will eventually do so by voice commands, considering VR, AR and other technologies that may eventually replace desktops at home. That is, until Siri was brought up, the Apple assistant alternative found on most iPhones.
Fortunately for Google, it seems they will soon be the default the engine for Siri’s queries, so Google Web Search itself should not be impacted. However, as it pertains to the Artificial Intelligence, remembering habits, likes, dislikes, and behavior patterns, choosing one assistant over the other could create ambiguity for users looking to streamline tasks and ultimately automate their lives.
What happens when a user gets to the office or to school or somewhere where computing switches from mobile to desktop? For iPhone users, AI learning stops for Siri and continues for Google (assuming they are using Google Chrome, logged into Google, or using other Google technologies).
For AI to work effectively in 2018, it’s this tech geek’s opinion that users should have the option to allow multiple assistants to share data and work together. I’ll keep a lookout for the “Share Data with Apple and Amazon” button next year. Until then I’ll try not to be redundant as I teach my AI engines my habits and patterns.
